History of Tourism and Landscape Architecture
The Department of Tourism and Landscape Architecture includes two directions - landscape architecture and tourism.
The landscape architecture's direction takes place since 1952 when Kutaisi Agricultural Institute was founded (hereinafter the Institute of Subtropical Economy in Sokhumi). Specialty of "Decorative Gardening" was opened at the Faculty of Subtropics, and in the following year the Department of Decorative Horticulture was functioning in 2004 (Kutaisi, Sokhumi, Kutaisi). In 2003-2006 merged "Decorative Gardening" and "Ecology" chairs, the "Decorative Horticulture and Ecology" chair was created.
The tourism direction originates since 2000 when the "Social and Cultural Services of Tourism and Resorts" was established in the Institute of Subtropical Economics Kutaisi), which functioned in the "tourism and resort" (Until 2004) chairs after "tourism and sports" (Until 2006)
In 2006, Department of Landscape Architecture, Tourism and Humanitarian Sciences was created under the Department of Decorative Gardening and Ecology, as well as "Tourism and Resort" Faculty of Subtropical Farming, Economics and Tourism.
In 2010, two directions were separated - Department of Subtropical Crops and Landscape Architecture was created at the Agrarian Faculty of Subtropical Agricultural State University of Georgia and department of "Tourism and Information Technology" at the Faculty of Business and Management. With such structure the State Teaching University of Subtropical Agriculture joined AkakiTsereteli State University in autumn 2010. After joining the tourism direction continued to function in the department of "Economics and Tourism" of the Faculty of Social Sciences (hereinafter Business, Law and Social Sciences).
Department of Subtropical Cultures and Landscape Architecture was functioning at the Agrarian Faculty before the fall of 2012 and the Department of Landscape Architecture in 2013-2015. In the autumn of 2015 the tourism direction has returned to the Agricultural Faculty and was created "Department of Tourism and Landscape Architecture", which is still functioning today.
